Global satellite internet service provider Starlink has officially commenced operations in Bangladesh, offering high-speed, unlimited data connectivity through two subscription packages — Starlink Residential and Residential Lite.

The monthly cost for the Residential plan is ৳6,000, while the Residential Lite plan is priced at ৳4,200. In addition, customers are required to pay a one-time setup fee of ৳47,000 for the hardware. Both packages come with no speed or data limitations, offering download speeds of up to 300 Mbps.

Bangladeshi consumers can now place orders directly for Starlink services, according to Fayez Ahmed Tayyab, Special Assistant to the Executive Advisor to the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.

Mr. Tayyab confirmed that Starlink representatives contacted him on Monday afternoon to announce the service’s official launch in Bangladesh. He noted that Professor Muhammad Yunus, the Executive Advisor to the Ministry, had earlier directed Starlink to begin operations in the country within 90 days — a directive that has now been successfully implemented.

Despite the relatively high cost, Mr. Tayyab emphasized that the service represents a sustainable and high-quality internet solution for premium users. He added that the launch will benefit NGOs, freelancers, and entrepreneurs by ensuring reliable, high-speed internet year-round, particularly in areas where fiber or fast internet connectivity is still unavailable.

The rollout also opens up new market opportunities for service providers to expand their coverage into underserved regions, offering a potential breakthrough in bridging the digital divide across Bangladesh.
